Bandar Sunway, Malaysia – Sunway Hotels & Resorts, the Malaysian-owned hospitality group with 11 hotels across Malaysia, Cambodia, and Vietnam, has partnered with Saxon Renewables, Asia’s trusted climate solutions partner, to launch a Voluntary Guest Carbon Offset Programme that empowers eco-conscious travellers to enjoy sustainable stays across its hotel portfolio.

This initiative invites guests to make a voluntary contribution when booking their room online or during check-in, directly supporting a range of certified carbon projects supplied by Saxon Renewables. All projects are certified under internationally recognised standards, such as Verra and Gold Standard, ensuring each contribution results in real, independently validated emission reductions.

Sustainability has always been part of Sunway’s DNA. Through this collaboration with Saxon Renewables, we’re extending that commitment to our guests – giving them the opportunity to participate in meaningful climate action during their stay. Alex Castaldi, Chief Executive Officer of Sunway Hospitality Group

Reik Ong, Founder and Managing Director of Saxon Renewables, added: We’re excited to collaborate with Sunway Hotels & Resorts in making climate action more accessible for guests. By connecting the hospitality sector to certified carbon projects, we help translate sustainability commitments into real, verified outcomes that guests can actively participate in.

Sustainability in Action at Sunway Hotels & Resorts

Aligned with the global movement for responsible travel, Sunway Hotels & Resorts stands among a pioneering collection of leading hospitality brands to offering guests a voluntary way to address the carbon footprint of their stay through certified climate projects. This forms part of a long-term commitment to sustainability which defines Sunway’s brand values and caring approach to hospitality.

Across its portfolio, the Group has implemented extensive energy-efficiency initiatives, including LED lighting, motion-sensor controls, and smart Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) to enhance the efficiency of its hotels and resorts. Water conservation is promoted through low-flow fixtures and linen-reuse programmes, while waste reduction efforts include food waste segregation, recycling initiatives, and the progressive elimination of single-use plastics.

The new carbon offset programme builds on these initiatives by giving guests a simple and credible way to contribute to address the carbon footprint of their stay through certified climate projects with proven environmental impact.

Empowering Eco-Conscious Travellers

Sunway’s new initiative reflects broader social trends and evolving traveller mindset. According to the Booking.com Sustainable Travel Report 2024, there is a strong shift in traveller mindset where 75% aim to travel more sustainably, 43% feel guilty when they don’t and 32% choose greener options simply because it aligns with their values and what they believe is right. By providing guests with a simple and credible way to align their hotel stays with their environmental values, Sunway is meeting the evolving needs of its eco-conscious guests.

Sunway aims to roll out the programme across its hotels by Q1 2026, with a target to offset up to 500 tonnes of carbon emissions through certified carbon credits within the first year of implementation. Each tonne retired represents real, verified climate impact— a collective effort made possible by Sunway guests choosing to support responsible travel.

As Malaysia prepares for Visit Malaysia 2026, this partnership reflects the hospitality sector’s growing commitment to support responsible travel and the rising expectations of today’s eco-travellers. Sunway’s initiative shows how credible climate action can be woven into everyday guest experiences.

Setting a New Benchmark for Responsible Travel

The partnership between Sunway Hotels & Resorts and Saxon Renewables marks an important milestone for Malaysia’s hospitality landscape, and demonstrates how collaboration between the hospitality and environmental sectors can drive meaningful progress toward a low-carbon future. It also reaffirms the shared commitment of these like-minded, forward-thinking companies to the advancement of sustainable tourism.

By inviting guests to take part in certified carbon projects supplied by Saxon Renewables, Sunway aims to inspire travellers to view sustainability not merely as a corporate initiative, but as a shared journey toward a greener, more resilient future.
