New British hotel group Oberland will open its first hotel, Arthouse Glasgow, in April 2026 as part of a wider plan to turn heritage buildings into contemporary, design-led destinations. The 76-bedroom hotel will occupy a 19th Century townhouse in the city centre and will form the first step in a planned UK and European hotel expansion.

Oberland specialises in converting historic properties into hotels that reflect their individual settings. The group said each site will include community-focused public spaces and a range of room rates to improve accessibility. It will look to work with local contributors across food, drink, events and experiences.

Arthouse Glasgow will feature four categories of en-suite bedrooms, including newly added ‘Pocket’ rooms priced from £99 per night. Classic rooms will start from £149, with suites from £229. Oberland has reconfigured the building to increase the total number of rooms by 17 compared with its previous layout.

Interior design is led by studio A-nrd, which plans to preserve elements of the building’s structure while introducing a mix of vintage and contemporary furniture. The aesthetic will draw on the city’s artistic heritage, with works by local makers incorporated throughout.

Glasgow restaurant Celentano’s will oversee the hotel’s restaurant, bar and lounge. Restaurateurs Dean and Anna Parker will relocate the business at the end of 2025, expanding to more than 60 covers.

Their menu will focus on ingredients-led cooking, with fermentation, nose-to-tail techniques and dishes prepared over embers. Signature items such as seasonal vegetable agnolotti will remain on the menu.

A bar serving Celentano’s in-house liqueurs will also be open to residents and non-residents, while a separate lounge will operate as an all-day space with an evening programme of artists and musicians.

Following the Glasgow opening, Oberland plans to launch a Manchester hotel later in 2026, with further sites to follow in the UK and Europe. The hotels will join the group’s recently opened retail and lifestyle project, Shires Yard in Bath, a redeveloped collection of Georgian buildings now home to independent and British brands.

Oberland co-founder William Riordan, said: “We are incredibly proud to have secured a site in Glasgow, a city that we’ve hoped to be a part of since launching Oberland back in 2022.

“Glasgow’s energy is unmistakable, from its world-class art and music to its vibrant restaurant culture, and we are excited for Arthouse Glasgow to become part of that story. Our vision is to create a place that welcomes both guests and locals; somewhere people feel drawn to, included in, and genuinely inspired by.”

Oberland co-founder Andrew Dean, added: “With each project, we want to breathe new life into remarkable heritage buildings, creating spaces where storied history and modern comfort sit side-by-side. Arthouse Glasgow is a striking building full of architectural grandeur and design detail, set in a buzzing modern city. Our job as custodians is merely to highlight and tell the story of each property and its city – Arthouse is an ideal start to our collection.”
